Annotation:

The author set himself several tasks: the first and main task was to inform the student of everything that was necessary in the XVIII century to understand the analysis of infinitesimals and that was not included in the algebra courses of that time. Euler's second task was to present more fully and systematically than usual some questions of algebra, which until then had not been presented in a coherent manner. Euler's contribution in this field is exceptionally great and completely indisputable. The third task of the author was to create a theory of functions. For the first time, Euler gave a lengthy exposition of the doctrine of functions. The fourth task that Euler sets himself is no longer pedagogical, but purely scientific. Therefore, Euler strives for three things in this essay: 1) borrowing, wherever possible, the discoveries of their predecessors, to prove them in a shorter and more convincing way; 2) to discover completely new theorems and 3) to discover new methods that provide an inexhaustible source for new discoveries.
