Annotation:

Ancient Greece developed forms and genera of literature, created a rich original literature, but it influenced the later literature of Western Europe, at least at first, only through Roman literature, which absorbed Greek. Due to natural and economic conditions, in ancient Italy, original literary creativity developed very slowly. The impetus for the development of literature was given by the Roman imperialist conquests with their consequences. In the history of Rome, first of all, we are struck by its unusual growth and fall. The purpose of this book is primarily to provide a manual for students of Roman literature (where it is read), it can also be used as a reference when studying Western literature, or it may interest a wide range of readers seeking to expand their knowledge.
