Researcher of the history and chronicle of Ancient Russia M. D. Priselkov (1881-1941) was the closest follower of academician A. A. Shakhmatov. Having adopted the textual method of A. A. Shakhmatov and developed it, M. D. Priselkov created the first work in science devoted to the history of such a peculiar genre of historical narrative as the chronicles were.
"The History of Russian Chronicle of the XI–XV centuries", published in 1940 as a university course, was equipped with a very modest scientific apparatus.
