Annotation:

This work includes a biographical note on the life and work of N. G. Chernyshevsky, materials on the political and economic situation in the country, brief information on the state of public education in Russia in the second half of the XIX century. Special sections are devoted to the characteristics of the general situation of Russia at that time, its backwardness and the influence of this circumstance on Chernyshevsky's worldview, Chernyshevsky's philosophical views, his pedagogical views and their evolution. The book concludes with a general summary of Chernyshevsky's activities as an ideological inspirer of revolutionary democratic pedagogy in Russia in the second half of the XIX century. The book also includes some selected pedagogical statements by H. G. Chernyshevsky. The book includes a chronology of the most important dates of H. G. Chernyshevsky's life and work, a bibliographic index of his pedagogical statements, a list of journals published in the second half of the XIX century and mentioned in these pedagogical statements, a brief bibliography of works about N. G. Chernyshevsky.
