Annotation:
The book is intended by the school as a textbook for students of literary faculties of state pedagogical institutes. The book covers the period from the beginning of the XIX century to 1861 and characterizes the literature of the first, "noble" stage of the development of the Russian revolutionary movement. Describing the literary process of the first six decades of the last century, the author divided it into three periods. They characterize social relations, aesthetic systems, critical disputes, journalism, in a word, the literary life of the period. Of the writers of the 40-70s, the author's field of view includes all those whose work in ideological and artistic terms preceded the revolutionary democratic movement of the 60s. Such writers include Turgenev, Goncharov, Ostrovsky, Pisemsky, S. Aksakov, Ogarev, Tyutchev.
