Annotation:
Edward Robert Bulwer-Lytton is an English diplomat and poet. When Lytton was twenty-five years old, he published a collection of poetry in London under the name Owen Meredith. He published several other volumes under the same name. The most popular of them is the novel in verse "Lucille", published in 1860. His poems were extremely popular, beautiful, and for the most part melancholic, and criticized in his day. He was a great experimenter of form. The poem "Lucille" is a narrative told in an anapest size. "Lucille" is a typical love novel, its plot follows the old formula: two men compete for the hand of one woman.
