Robert Louis Stevenson is an English travel writer and poet, by birth a Scot, the author of world-famous adventure novels and short stories, the largest representative of English neo-Romanticism.
This book is a collection of short stories, fiction by Stevenson. The action of Stevenson's stories takes place in Europe at that time, stylistically he connects the nested structure of Arabic fairy tales. "New Arabian Nights" is divided into four parts:
"The Suicide Club"—contains three short stories;
"The Rajah's Diamond"—contains four short stories;
"The pavilion on the links"—stories in 9 mini-chapters;
"A lodging for the night".
The first two parts feature detective stories that tell about a creepy secret society, as well as intrigues and adventures related to exotic jewelry. And the third and fourth parts combine unrelated fragments, which takes place in a cottage surrounded by quicksand, and tells the story of two old friends who become rivals for the location of a woman.
